Storm Intercept Summary
Today was a very fun chase, especially since I was able to stay in Southeast Kansas. It makes a huge difference chasing/spotting storms in areas in which you are familiar. I started out playing the waiting game near the Parsons Tri-City Airport. Storms really got going in the late afternoon, and I did find a short-lived wall cloud with a severe thunderstorm west of Buffalo, Kansas. This wall cloud didn't exist for very long, as this storm became outflow dominant very quickly.
The storms today were known for producing large hail. I experienced nickel sized hail on two separate storms. One of those storms was just north of Buffalo, Kansas and the other was just south of La Harpe, Kansas. Nickel sized hail was actually some of the smaller hail that a lot of these storms produced today.
I enjoyed playing the role of a spotter in my own home chase territory. I made several contacts with the National Weather Service via the Spotternetwork and cellphone.
