Storm Intercept Summary
Today was a fun storm chasing day that ended extremely well for me! I woke up and found to my surprise that there was a Moderate Risk of severe thunderstorms over all of Western Missouri. I normally don't get real excited about storms in Missouri(too many trees and hills), but I wanted to give it a shot. Severe thunderstorms developed and moved into West Central Missouri and I took the bait. I didn't see much with these thunderstorms, except for a lot of heavy rain. I was about to give up on my chase, when I noticed new thunderstorms developing along the dryline in extreme Eastern Kansas north of Fort Scott, Kansas. I put the hammer down and made a beeline towards these new storms. These thunderstorms became severe warned very quickly and then became tornado warned near Hammond, Kansas. I finally got my first view of the thunderstorm while it was producing a tornado near Hammond, Kansas. I watched the entire tornado from start to finish from Missouri State "V" highway located just East Of Hume, Missouri. I took several photographs of this tornado and they are included in the photo gallery below!
